Online discussion: Climate Knowledge Mobilisation: From Co-Creation to Community-Led use

ACCESS4AL, co-funded by the European Union, successfully organized the online discussion on "Climate Knowledge Mobilisation: From Co-Creation to Community-Led use"  on 14th December 2025. 

 

Moderated by Rubaiyat Ashrafee, Coordinator, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, with discussants Dr. Haseeb Irfanullah, Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Environment and Life Sciences, ULAB, and Tapas Chakraborty, Senior Program Manager, Climate Change Programme, BRAC, the session brought together practitioners, researchers and educators from diverse fields to share insights on how knowledge mobilisation in climate action can transcend conventional framings, fostering more equitable and contextually relevant outcomes.

Online discussion: What does community based climate education mean for students?

11th December 2025

ACCESS4ALL, co-funded by the European Union, successfully organized the online discussion on "What does community based climate education mean for students?" on 11th December 2025. 

 

Moderated by Rubaiyat Ashrafee, Coordinator, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, the session hosted four students from the Green Skills for Climate Change Professionals course to present on their Capstone Projects. Md. Faisal Hasan presented on Flotation Gardens of Hope, Syed Irfan Uddin on Household Agriculture for a Sustainable and Integrated Livelihood (HASI), Kazi Daniel Mamun on Green Belt Initiative, and Nafisa Tabassum Mukta on Living with water: A study on raising resiliency. The session ended with Q&A from the audience and key takeaways on the role of community-based climate education in driving collective action.

ACCESS4ALL presents at the Environment & Changing Climate 2025 conference at IUB

21st November 2025

ACCESS4ALLhosted a feedback session at the Environment & Changing Climate 2025 conference Independent University, Bangladesh on 21st November. The session was facilitated by Rumana Sultana, Assistant Professor, School of Environment and Life Sciences, Independent University, Bangladesh. 

 

The student participants shared their experience and motivation behind taking the course, Sameera Zaman, & Dr. Haseeb Irfanullah from ULAB, and Kh. Ayaz Rabbani, Kazi Sunzida Lisa & Saquib Ahmad Khan from IUB shared their experience of designing the course, and Rubaiyat Ashrafee from BRAC JPGSPH shared her experience of coordinating the project.

ACCESS4ALL presents at the Regional Erasmus+ Cluster Meeting and Contact-Making Seminar 2025

ACCESS4ALL presented at the Regional Erasmus+ Cluster Meeting and Contact-Making Seminar 2025 for Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific in Sri Lanka on 19th November 2025. 

 

In the planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution there is an active roll for education institutions to empower teachers and learners and to engage with the wider community.  The Erasmus+ programme is a key instrument for building the knowledge, skills, and attitudes on climate change and supporting sustainable development within the European Union and beyond, including Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific. 

 

Selima Kabir, Senior Research Associate at BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, presented on the ACCESS4ALL project which aims to co-create short courses centered on workforce needs and priorities to develop transformative green skills, empower communities & practitioners to enhance climate change knowledge and champion locally-led solutions, and build a Global South-led digital repository to amplify regional perspectives.

Community Ambassadors 3-day ToT training at Khulna

14-16th November 2025

ACCESS4ALL hosted a 3-day residential training of trainers at Khulna CSS Ava Centre from 14th November to 16th November 2025. 

 

14 community ambassadors from Khulna, Satkhira, and Chuadanga took part in the training where they learned about the basics of climate change, causes, effects, followed by lectures on community mobilizations, public speaking, and planning community meetings. 

 

The goal of this ToT is to build the capacity of community ambassadors to disseminate contextual learning within communities that supports their wellbeing, climate resilience, and environmental awareness.

Online discussion: Climate and Health Education in Global South Contexts and the Way Forward

9th November 2025

ACCESS4ALL, co-funded by the European Union, successfully hosted the online discussion on “Climate and Health Education in Global South Contexts and the Way Forward” on 9th November, 2025. 

 

Moderated by Rubaiyat Ashrafee, Coordinator, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, with discussants Farzana Misha, Associate Professor, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, and Dr. Mahfuza Parveen, Associate Professor, Daffodil International University-DIU, the session brought together educators, researchers, and practitioners to share insights on strengthening climate and health education in Global South contexts.

ACCESS4ALL hosted interactive workshop at the 7th CSD Annual Conference

4th November 2025

ACCESS4ALL held an interactive workshop on the final day of the 7th CSD Annual Conference on Sustainable Development 2025. It brought together educators, policymakers, and practitioners to co-develop measurable indicators for assessing climate change education in Bangladesh and beyond. 

 

ACCESS4ALL principal investigators from Bangladesh partner institutes Dr. Sabina Faiz Rashid, BRAC JPGSPH, Dr. Kh. Ayaz Rabbani, IUB, and Samiya Selim PhD, ULAB, shared reflections on the way forward with the project, emphasizing collaboration and localization of sustainability education through global partnerships. 

 

Edwin Koekkoek, First Counselor, Team Leader – Green Inclusive Development at the Delegation of the European Union in Bangladesh, initiated the policy brief session by emphasizing the need for integrated and collaborative approaches to accessible education. The session was followed by a policy dialogue featuring valuable insights from Prof. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Accreditation Council, S M Shahjahan Ph.D BTEB, S. M. Bashir Ullah TMED, Nayoka Martinez-Bäckström, Embassy of Sweden, and Md. Ashraful Haque, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, moderated by Dr. Haseeb Irfanullah, with a presentation by Sameera Zaman, CSD, ULAB. 

 

The day concluded with closing remarks by Professor Imran Rahman, former Vice Chancellor of ULAB, reaffirming the university's dedication to advancing climate literacy and sustainability leadership in Bangladesh.

Learning Session at Dhaka

8th October 2025

On 8 October, ACCESS4ALL hosted a learning session at the BRAC Centre, bringing together faculty from BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) to share experiences, challenges, and lessons learned in designing and piloting inclusive, climate-focused education.

 

The session began with welcome remarks from Dr. K. A. Rabbani, Dean, School of Environment and Life Sciences, IUB, followed by Dr. Sabina Faiz Rashid, Professor and Mushtaque Chowdhury Chair in Health and Poverty, BRAC JPGSPH, who shared BRAC JPGSPH’s curriculum development journey. Dr. Rumana Sultana, Assistant Professor, School of Environment and Life Sciences, IUB, moderated an engaging discussion on the importance of curriculum reform in Bangladesh’s context.

 

Presentations were given by Saquib Ahmed Khan, Lecturer, School of Environment and Life Sciences, IUB, and Sameera Zaman, Research Associate, Centre for Sustainable Development, ULAB, highlighting their curriculum development and course piloting experiences. The session concluded with remarks from Rubaiyat Ashrafee, Coordinator, BRAC JPGSPH, emphasizing the value of collaboration in advancing inclusive and climate-conscious education.

ACCESS4ALL Faculties Convene in Maastricht

10th to 12th September 2025

Faculties from the ACCESS4ALL— representing the Center for Sustainable Development, ULAB, Independent University, Bangladesh, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, and Heidelberg University — recently convened at the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Life Sciences, Maastricht University, from September 10–12.

​

Team members presented their course models, received feedback, and engaged in structured critiques with institutional partners. These sessions led to actionable suggestions for curriculum development, Training of Trainers (ToT) guidelines, and community mobilization strategies.

To conclude the workshop, participants visited Bugenhagenschule Alsterdorf, where they observed the "Climate School Program" and took part in an experimental class with high school students, the German Climate Computing Center | DKRZ | for a closer look at the supercomputing systems managing climate data, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, to engage in discussions on climate research with Gicela Vergara, and lastly the Cluster of Excellence Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS/SICSS), where Alex Franzke shared insights into interdisciplinary climate and social science research.

Workshop with local university- Khulna University

7th August 2025

Faculty members from BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, Center for Sustainable Development, ULAB, and Khulna University came together on Thursday, 7th August 2025, for a learning session under ACCESS4ALL Learning Hub.

Dr. Md. Golam Hossain, Professor and Dean of Life Science School, Khulna University opened the session with welcome remarks, followed by Rubaiyat Ashrafee, Coordinator-ACCESS4ALL, BRAC JPGSPH presenting an overview of the project. Sameera Zaman, Research Associate, CSD, ULAB, shared her insights on curriculum development, course piloting, and lessons learned. Md. Sanaul Islam, Professor of Soil, Water and Environment Discipline, Khulna University concluded the session.

Workshop with local university- University of Barishal

23rd July 2025

Faculty members from BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and Barisal University came together on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, for a learning session under the ACCESS4ALL project. Professor Dr. Mohammad Taufiq Alam, Vice Chancellor of Barisal University, and Ishrat Jahan, Research Fellow at BRAC JPGSPH, opened the session. Ishrat Jahan and Saquib Ahmad Khan from IUB shared insights on curriculum development, course piloting, and lessons learned. Dr. Hafiz Ashraful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Bioscience and Chairman of the Department of Coastal Studies and Disaster Management, at Barisal University, concluded the session with closing remarks.

Technical Meeting at Heidelberg

21st to 25th May 2025

ACCESS4ALL consortium members, and faculties across affiliated institutions gathered recently at the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health at the University of Heidelberg from 21st to 25th May for a technical workshop. 

​

They shared their experience in developing climate change MOOCs, challenges faced, and highlighted the need for action-oriented curriculum content. The workshop aimed to reinforce the need for cross-institutional learning and collaborative critique in shaping accessible, context-responsive MOOCs led by Global South institutions.
