Community Resilience Adaptation, Western Kenya

For Kenya, community resilience adaptation has been successful through

  1. Including communities in Budalangi region in development of community resilience plans hinged on science based early warning systems and information disseminated through community radios. Safe zones were identified for community members to move to during flooding incidences and also adoption of livelihood practices in line with resilience to floods

  2. Developing harmony of western science and indigenous knowledge for community 'rainmakers' like the Nganyi Community. Here weather stations were placed in traditional shrines and community rainmakers taught on how to read climate instruments as a supplement to their IK
