Community-Centered Adaptation: Flood Resilience in Northern Bangladesh

In the flood-prone Char areas of northern Bangladesh, a successful adaptation plan helped communities cope with frequent flooding. NGOs and local authorities worked with residents to build elevated homes, floating gardens, and raised seedbeds. Vulnerable households were prioritized, and local materials and traditional practices were used, reflecting community values.

The plan addressed major challenges like housing damage and crop loss, assessed vulnerability effectively, and resolved conflicts through local committees. By involving the community in planning and implementation, it strengthened adaptive capacity, improved resilience to floods, and fostered cooperation.
