The DRC used its auction strategy to leverage its presence in the fight against climate change at international climate change conferences. Instead of exploration which adds to climate crises they politicized their bargaining chip thanks to the abundance of natural forests and gas in the country.
The DRC though having one of the world's largest forest compared with the likes of Brazil and Indonesia receives far too little in climate related investments compared to those in the Amazon. Its Agreement with Brazil aims at helpuing the country secures same level of exposure and access to climate fundings for the preservation of its natural rain forest.
The concept of Damage and Loss reflects in the DRC's approach in that it believes those who had contributed in the negative climate change effects we have today should pay reparations some how for their role in this phenomenon. This too holds true for countries in the global south, who did very little as far as climate crisis is concerned but due to poverty, they are the ones feeling the most drastic effects of the crisis they did not contribute to. So Climate Justice should be taken seriously such that these countries are aided to adapt to climate change and mitigate the impacts
