Crafting and Reviewing SMART Objectives

Step 1: General Adaptation Goal

Enhance the resilience of rural communities in northern Bangladesh to frequent flooding and reduce its impacts on livelihoods and infrastructure.

Step 2: SMART Objective

SMART Objective:

Develop and implement a flood early warning system, improve drainage channels, and support 50 farming households with flood-resilient agricultural techniques in five flood-prone villages in northern Bangladesh by December 2026.

SMART Criteria Explanation:

*Specific:

  The objective clearly focuses on establishing an early warning system, improving drainage, and supporting farmers with appropriate techniques.

* Measurable:

  Progress can be measured by the number of targeted villages (5), households supported (50), and the implementation of the early warning system.

* Achievable:

  The objective is realistic given limited resources, as it focuses on targeted, community-level interventions.

* Relevant:

  It directly addresses the main climate risk—flooding—and its impacts on homes and agriculture.

* Time-bound:

  A clear deadline is set for completion: December 2027.
