Natural Hazards in Bangladesh

Bangladesh frequently experiences floods, cyclones, riverbank erosion, droughts, salinity intrusion, and occasional landslides. Its low-lying deltaic geography and proximity to the Bay of Bengal make it highly disaster-prone. Climate change is intensifying these hazards—warmer seas fuel stronger cyclones, heavier rainfall worsens floods and erosion, rising sea levels increase salinity, and heatwaves and droughts are becoming more common. These shifts have already displaced millions of people nationwide. Thus, climate change not only raises the frequency and severity of natural hazards but also deepens socio-economic vulnerabilities across Bangladesh.
