CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT

A significant climate change impact in my locality, Dunkwa on Offin, Ghana to be specific is extreme weather precisely the dry spell. This is so intense that even when it rains, the next minute, the ground gets dried up. This has had significant effect on farming which is the main economic activity in the community. Yield of most farm crops have reduced significantly due to insufficient soil moisture.

To adapt to this challenge, the community developed a water irrigation system using harvested rain water and drilled boreholes. The introduction of this system has started yielding positive results in the community.

By way of assistance, the local assembly provided the rigs that sunk the boreholes at the designated sites. Specialized tanks were also provided for the harvesting of rain water.
