What if a pen could grow into a plant instead of becoming waste? 🌱♻️

Last month, we tested a simple circular-economy idea: seed pens (paper pens that can be planted after use).

This wasn’t just a “craft activity” — it was a behaviour-design experiment: Can climate action become simple enough to fit into everyday life?

In 18 days: ✅ 20 teenagers learned the process and produced seed pens

✅ 120+ seed pens were made by youth

✅ 200+ households joined conversations on plastic waste and climate-friendly habits

From waste to income ♻️💸 Hi everyone, I’m Jobayer, a UNICEF Youth Advocacy Champion

We worked with 5 women and reused 6kg textile waste to create products + climate impact.

Mangrove Restoration in Philippines in comparison to Bangladesh

The case of the Philippines is a reflection of a significant part of coastal reality in Bangladesh. Both nations have some common and unfamiliar aspects to learn and grow resilient together. They both illustrates the feedback loop of vulnerability where the destruction of natural ecosystems for short term economic gain (shrimp farming) leads to catastrophic losses during climate events. However both also showcase how nature based solutions can restore social equity.

Our Geography is a Double-edged sword, while the Philippines is an archipelago of islands that can act as individual "walls" Bangladesh is a flat low lying delta. More specifically The coastal lines are the most lowest part of Bangladeshi delta.

Firstly in our country a storm surge doesn't just hit the shore it travels dozens of miles inland through our river networks. The disaster doesn't stop when the wind stops or the wave current stops. The salt left behind…

Climate Change scenarios in local community 📍

Thakurgaon, Bangladesh

In my hometown climate changen impact has significantly got stronger due to unplanned infrastructure development, land encroachment but no one's interested about the adaptation or mitigation. For example a lot of old trees were cut down into logs due to multistoried building serving purpose residentially and commercially. But the cut down and land degradation was done without any environmental impact assessment or under any supervision of the experts. The divider trees which have been planted afterwards the road expansion are also below maintenance. Once a house filled with big carbon storing trees have fully become dependent on a bunch of house plants. Unnecessary dusts and polluted air particles have taken dominance over the GHGs as a consequence of zero maintenance industry. It's high time we considered our lives and mother earth over industrialization and greed. The deepstate should be aware and responsible of the trade offs of development…

Discussion Forum Reflection – Vulnerability Mapping Module

For this discussion forum, I have uploaded a PDF of my identified vulnerability list based on the virtual field trip regions, with particular focus on urban slum areas in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The vulnerability assessment highlights key climate hazards such as heavy rainfall, flooding, storms, extreme heat, and water contamination, and examines how these hazards interact with social and infrastructural conditions to shape human vulnerability.

Key insights from the community testimonial videos

The community testimonial videos from Dhaka provided strong, human-centred insights into how climate change is experienced in everyday life. Residents described living in houses made of thin zinc or metal sheets, which become extremely hot during both the dry and rainy seasons. Even with fans, indoor temperatures remain unbearable, forcing people to endure heat stress inside their homes. During storms, rainwater leaks through roofs, and houses often become unlivable for several days.

Climate Change Impacts on Agriculture and Livelihoods in South East Lowveld, Zimbabwe. Chiredzi District

The undoubted impacts of climate change reveal in Chiredzi District in the South East Lowveld, Zimbabwe. Due to the low altitude, the area ordinarily has a higher temperature and is regarded dry. However with the advent impact of climate change the area has begun to experience higher temperatures even reaching 44degrees celcius, which have never been recorded before, occurrence of erratic rainfall patterns associated with sudden down pours leading to flooding, destruction of crops, livestock and infrastructure, prolonged dry spells leading to crop and livestock failures and some years experience rainfall below 100mm/year. This ultimately leads to total crop failure and death to livestock on a larger scale, increased human and wildlife conflict. However in periods like these those with access to irrigation water rely on production of irrigated crops. However the majority and most vulnerable populations have no access. If coherent planning and organisation is implemented there is great…

Climate Change Impact in Kenya: Rising Risks from Extreme Weather Events

Hello everyone, I'm Samuel Simiyu, a nutritionist passionate about sustainability and community wellbeing.

Like many parts of the world, my region is increasingly experiencing the harsh realities of climate change. One key impact we've seen is the rise in erratic rainfall and extreme weather, leading to frequent flooding that affects lives and livelihoods.

These unpredictable downpours often overwhelm local drainage systems and rivers, causing floods that damage homes especially in vulnerable, low-lying areas. Families are displaced, infrastructure is destroyed, and access to essential services like healthcare, schools, and food markets is disrupted.

As a nutritionist, I see how these climate impacts also worsen food insecurity and malnutrition, especially for children and women. Crops are lost, prices rise, and access to clean water and nutritious food becomes limited.

Addressing climate change isn't just about the environment it's about protecting people.…

Comparing Mangrove Restoration in the Philippines with Nigeria

The mangrove restoration story in the Philippines shows how communities can restore ecosystems, protect livelihoods, and build resilience against climate hazards. In Nigeria, there are both similarities and differences in challenges and solutions.

Nigeria faces a variety of climate hazards, including seasonal flooding in Lagos and the Niger Delta, droughts in the north, coastal erosion, and heatwaves. Climate change is intensifying these events, similar to how typhoons have grown stronger in the Philippines. Coastal and riverine communities, along with small-scale farmers, fishers, women, and children, are the most affected due to reliance on natural resources and limited coping capacity.

Local adaptation efforts in Nigeria include mangrove reforestation along the coast, climate-smart agriculture with drought-resistant crops, improved drainage, and community early-warning systems. However, these efforts are often fragmented and depend heavily on support from NGOs or government agencies like NEMA.

In the Philippines, mangrove restoration was more organized, with schools, youth,…

To address the increasing impacts of climate change, adaptation must start at the local level—especially in vulnerable regions. However, a common challenge is the lack of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining climate-resilient infrastructure.

This is why skill-building and practical training are essential. We need to equip communities, engineers, and local leaders with the knowledge to integrate adaptation into infrastructure projects from flood-resistant drainage and reinforced housing to nature-based solutions like green embankments and urban wetlands.

To enhance collaboration, learning, and project management within our climate adaptation and green skills initiatives, consider integrating several key plugins into our digital workspace. For seamless communication and real-time collaboration, tools like Slack or Discord integration, alongside visual co-creation platforms such as Miro or FigJam, can help teams brainstorm and map adaptation strategies interactively. To support learning and engagement, interactive content plugins like H5P or embedded video solutions such as Kaltura allow for dynamic training materials, while polling tools like Mentimeter facilitate live feedback and interactive sessions. Project management can be streamlined with Trello or Asana integrations for tracking tasks and timelines, and data visualization plugins like Chart.js can help present climate risk analyses clearly. Finally, to ensure inclusivity and accessibility, incorporating text-to-speech tools like ReadSpeaker and multilingual translation plugins will help make our resources usable and equitable for all participants, fostering a more collaborative and effective learning environmen
