Flooding in Nigeria
Flooding is one major climate induced challenge i face in my community in Nigeria.
The poor construction of drainage systems aids flooding during the peak rainy seasons.
When the drainage systems are poorly constructed, when the rainy season comes and the drainage system fails, water from the rainfall deposits takes whatever course it wants (roads, peoples houses, anywhere at all) it even sometimes gets clogged and mixed with waste materials thereby causing a hold up of it.
It poses a lot of challenges to the community at large because it incurs an annual maintenance cost on both private and public entities in the community. Because residue of floods have to be cleaned and damaged drainage systems have to be repaired.
