Heatwaves impact in my local community.

In the midst of a changing climate, weather patterns are no longer seasonal like they used to be. In recent years, the heat experienced immediately after the rains stop has become unbearable. Increasing heatwaves cause significant havoc in my community (Abeokuta, Nigeria), including poor air quality, disrupted breathing and sleeping patterns, and insecurity issues like robbery. These issues interact, leading to a low quality of life and low productivity for residents. To manage the impact of heat, many households rely solely on solar-powered fans, while those who can afford powered fans and air conditioners use them. However, it's crucial that proper urban planning is implemented to incorporate green and sustainable solutions, such as planting trees and creating green areas, to reduce the urban heat island effect for both current and future generations.
