Policy and Climate Action in Ivory Coast
Energy access in the Ivory Coast is crucial, according to the government plan. A whole policy is focused on energy access while developing a strategy to include new energy, renewable energy dedicated to household consumption.
The supply capacity for renewables grows every year, as does the consumption rate.
However, the energy access rate has not yet reached 100%. So, the new energy policy acts as both a contributor to climate actions and a connector to new places. The availability of infrastructure is limited to the near future. Therefore, the achievement of this policy is far behind the actions taken.
In this context, international frameworks are insufficient because Ivorian climate policy funding relies on foreign aid, which delays implementation.
This policy does not put constraints on industries which continuously pollute and use fossil energy, while there’s a possibility to avoid pollution through the use of renewables.
