The Impact of Flooding on Livelihoods in Ntoroko Western Uganda
Hello Everyone,
I'm Derick Akampurira from Uganda 🇺🇬.
It is a harsh reality that countries in the Global South are the most exposed to the devastating effects of climate change, yet we continue to face the brunt of climate injustice. I have seen this reality firsthand in the Ntoroko District.
In 2024, catastrophic flooding displaced over 20,000 people and wiped out thousands of livestock. The very backbone of our community’s economy. To this day, many families are still living in IDP camps. The damage wasn't just physical; it was generational. Some schools were forced to close their doors permanently, and livelihoods that took decades to build vanished overnight.
Despite the ongoing efforts from the government and various NGOs, these communities haven't been able to stabilize. The scale of the destruction has simply outpaced the available resources.
The effects of climate change are devastating everywhere, but they are particularly cruel in our communities, where we lack the resources to adapt and protect ourselves. We aren't just talking about statistics; we are talking about lives, education, and a future
