In Uttarakhand, climate change has led to heavier rainfall and more frequent landslides, especially in the hilly areas. Rising temperatures and irregular monsoon rains have increased cloudbursts, which cause loss of life, damage to roads and houses, and disturb livelihoods based on tourism and farming. The weak mountain infrastructure often cannot handle such extreme events, leaving many villages cut off and delaying rescue work. To deal with these problems, the state government is improving early warning systems, controlling construction in risky areas, and training communities in disaster preparedness. At the same time, local people are saving water, protecting hill slopes, and changing farming practices to adjust to the changing climate.
